Business and Business Owner Info

Version: 2024.10.23

Business owner is a title that comes with running a business.

  • You may own one whitelisted business at any given time.

  • You take full responsibility; for the good and the bad.

  • Your employees answer to you – and you answer to gov.

Ultimately, we will determine if you are complying with the rules, and the spirit of the rules of business ownership.

Responsibilities

  1. You work the business. It is your PRIMARY JOB.

  2. Have adequate coverage. Based on demand, be sure to cover prime play time, and hire employees to fill the gaps.

  3. Supply the business: Always have enough supplies so you and the employees can run the business.

  4. Pay your employees fairly and on time. Set a schedule and stick to it.

  5. Keep Gov informed of any time away (5+ days straight)

Rest assured, the last thing we want to do is intervene in a business. But, if we deem it necessary, we will intervene swiftly and efficiently.

Gaining Ownership

Once assigned ownership,

  • You will pay your ownership fee

  • We will set your ownership role

  • We will ask about the employee roster - keep or clear

  • We will share with you how the business operates and where you get supplies

  • You will be on a 30-day trial period - no unnecessary changes/modifications

  • Accepting ownership means accepting the business “as-is.” No MLO changes, MLO's are set in places for optimization and to limit conflicts, the only time a MLO will be changed is if there is a big issue with that MLO.

Ownership Fee

  1. Prior to taking over a business, the selected owner will pay the Ownership Fee of $100,000 (in-city money.)

  2. The fee is non-refundable regardless of whether the ownership is maintained or not.

Business Rules

  1. “Open” is defined as an employee on site, announcing the business is open, and providing service.

  2. You may have as many employees as you see fit to maintain adequate service availability.

  3. Absenteeism: If you need to be away from the business for more than five days, you will notify Gov through the proper channels. For privacy, we don’t need to know the reason. But, we do need an estimate of how long and how you intend to take care of your employees' pay and business supplies.

  4. You may hire a manager and that manager will have access to the boss menu and society funds.

  5. As the owner, you are expected to be an ACTIVE owner, the face of the business.

    1. This means providing the service to the community, along with your employees. Managing the books is an assumed responsibility and not considered the only responsibility.

    2. For example, if you own a food business, you are expected to be greeting customers, filling orders the same as you expect from the employees. The concept of “build the business so it runs itself” is NOT an accepted practice.

  6. You will use the established tool to communicate with the government about the business. Currently we expect it to be a designated discord channel. Of course this may change.

  7. Business sheets are owned and managed by Gov. The owner is responsible for ensuring that they are used and maintained properly.

  8. Once uniforms are established, anyone working must wear the uniform.

  9. NO org items are to be worn while on duty.

  10. The first 30 days of ownership is a trial period. Gov will fix things that are broken or are creating difficulties. But, no substantial changes are to be requested during that time.

  11. Absolutely no business, product, or service names will be permitted to be associated with organizations.

  12. As the owner, you may ban individuals or organizations from your business. We think a week or less should be sufficient. If a situation requires something different, let us know in your specific business channel so we can discuss. However, you may not completely cut them off from essential services, especially if you are the only business that can provide that service. And the ban can not go on for an unreasonable amount of time. For example, Business owner Suzie’s organization is at war with Org Alpha. Suzie bans one or all org members from the business for a week. If Suzie provides an essential service, that org leader should RP with Suzie to allow a delegate to request services on their behalf. Or they should work with a surrogate. And Suzie should allow that RP to take place. And that Ban should end within a reasonable amount of time.

Non-compliance

Non-compliance with the rules could include but not limited to the following consequences (in no particular order):

  • Strike 1 - Warning

  • Strike 2 - Loss of business

Over time, with great ownership habits, the first strike has the opportunity to fall off.

Conclusion

The point we are making with all of these requirements is we intend to protect the RP environment. Understand that.

You may have things in real life that take you away from the city and we understand that. As a player, there is never a requirement to be in the city for a minimum amount of time.

However, that is different for business owners. If you can’t be in the city enough (according to Gov) or if you can’t comply with these requirements, make the decision to turn the business back into Gov and give someone else a chance at ownership.
